Ingredients
Recipes, groceries and your pantry share one ingredient catalogue.
Names and translations such as onion, onions and ui (Dutch for onion) can refer to one ingredient, sharing its aisle assignments, prices and nutrition.
Find the catalogue under Settings => Ingredients.
Matching
Matching recognizes plurals, translations, quantities and preparation instructions.
For example, "finely chopped onions" matches "onion". Names that aren't recognized are added as new ingredients.
Ingredients can also be grouped under a parent. For example, "cherry tomatoes" can inherit the aisle, nutrition and icon of "tomato".
The page lists catalogue ingredients and those used in recipes. Grocery-only and pantry-only items appear once used in a recipe.
AI cleanup
Administrators can enable AI cleanup under Settings => Admin => AI & processing => Ingredient catalogue.
AI can:
- Merge duplicate ingredients and translations.
- Group related ingredients under a parent.
- Correct names and identify non-food entries.
- Fill missing nutrition, weights and icons.
AI cleanup is off until explicitly enabled.
Reviewing changes
Open Changed by AI to review recent changes.
You can Keep or Undo changes, including deleted or merged ingredients. Changes that AI is uncertain about are highlighted for review.
Nutrition generated by AI is labeled Estimated by AI. See Nutrition.
Managing ingredients
Edit names, translations, parents and other details in an ingredient's panel.
Deleting an ingredient removes its catalogue entry. Recipes and groceries keep their original text. Any orphaned ingredients are rematched if possible.
The deletion dialog shows what will be affected before you confirm.
Data sources
The ingredient catalogue comes from Open Food Facts and refreshes nightly.
Nutrition data comes from CIQUAL, CALNUT, USDA FoodData Central and CoFID.
The Open Food Facts taxonomy is available under the Open Database License (ODbL).
